Today’s the day! Tonight we will find out who was selected as a mentee for #Pitchwars. In the meantime, the lovely Jane Kippling invited me to participate in the 7/7/7/ Pitchwars Challenge.
Here are the rules:
- Go to page 7 of your WIP.
- Scroll down to Line 7.
- Share the next 7 sentences in a blog post.
- After the excerpt, tag 7 other writers to continue the challenge.
My MC Ruby loves the movies, and here is a little glimpse of what it’s like for her in these 7 sentences:
It was magic; walking into the theater all dark and full of stuffy hot air smelling of salt and burned butter from the popcorn machine and taking our seats near the front. Finally after waiting and waiting the first clicking sounds of the machine started up behind us and then the ray of light shined through the darkness with bits of magic dancing in the beam and boom! The whole world turned to light.
The pictures came alive and when the music started to play I forgot all about my Daddy sitting at the kitchen table back with his fist pressed into his neck and Momma slumped down next to me with her shoes off and her feet up on the back of the chair in front of us and I couldn’t help but wonder what it felt like to be up there on the screen made of light.
If a new picture didn’t come to town for a while, we’d see the same ones two or three times. After the show sometimes Momma and me would split a soda at the dime store where they sold broken cookies in a paper bag for two pennies. Across the back wall were rows of magazines with pictures of all the movie starts and the soda lady gave me the old ones for free. Am I gonna see you in one of these magazines someday? She asked me.
I can’t wait to read your pages! And the 7 writers I’m tagging are:
- Norelli A. Reveron
- Rebecca McLaughlin
- Bronwen Fleetwood
- Jennifer Farrar
- Ashley Flach
- Kathleen Allen
- Lana Pattinson
We’re almost there #menteemates!! By this time tomorrow at this time, we’ll know either way!
